post a comment...hello,
well you bring me back some memories...
cheers
Sorry, I'll have to disagree with you here. I thought the script was cheesy and the performances awful. And that haircut was the final blow.
"Arthur ruled a tiny kingdom . . . Our hour is past."
King Arthur, Beowulf, and Gilgamesh became in their tales archetypal and spiritually transcendent heroes with fantastic experiences, but Lancelot is right: from a purely earthbound perspective, all three ruled tiny realms.
I thought this episode was a beautiful elegy for the mythic power celebrated in such epics. I have never forgotten it since it first aired.
i think the last comment was for the last defender of camelot...
anyway, this episode sucked. its not good just bc it makes a hero or winner out of an otherwise sympathetic victim. it also had no logic or unexpected twists, it was just dreck.
the guy tho was a nut in twin peaks.
Great performances really elevate what could have been a mediocre episode. Melanie Mayron is extremely good as a woman who really *almost* believes that everything her husband does to her is her fault, and Kenneth Welsh similarly excels as a nasty piece of work who can just barely put on a thin veneer of socially-acceptable civility when absolutely required.
The story is no great shakes, although I do like how quickly Louise figures out what's going on. Kudos for NOT making that the final twist.
Kind of lazy, though, that the ceramic dog just kind of shows up in the mail from her sister. No explanation, no backstory, and no payoff there. In fact, the script is overall fairly lazy -- not terrible, just fuzzy and lacking in detail.
Still ... a good episode in the final analysis.
